Local Chapter History

The American Society of Military Comptrollers is a professional organization devoted to the professional and personal development of members in the private and public sector.  The American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) Tri-State Chapter is an affiliate of the ASMC National Headquarters in Alexandria, VA.  The Tri-State Chapter includes members from Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas.  The Tri-State Chapter received its seal of approval from ASMC National Headquarters on February 6, 1997.  The chapter's membership at the time of approval consisted of 26 Charter members.

On April 8, 1997, the first elected officers of the Tri-State Chapter were installed and presented its Charter at the Naval Support Activity Memphis (renamed NSA Mid-South in 1998) by Lieutenant General (Ret) James McCall, ASMC National Headquarters Executive Director.  The chapter quickly excelled in various areas of professional growth and was recognized at the ASMC 1998 Annual Professional Development Institute (PDI) Conference for its achievements in the areas of Leadership and Chapter Growth.  The Tri State Chapter held its first mini PDI in March 1998.  The Chapter continues its quality performance and was awarded the "Distinguished Five Star Chapter Award" in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Today the Tri-State Chapter has more than 150 members from the Tri-State area and remains an active Chapter of ASMC.

National Headquarters Background

ASMC was established in 1948 in San Antonio, TX.  It is now a non-profit educational and professional organization for persons, military and civilian, involved in the field of military comptrollership.  Military comptrollership is defined as the professions of financial management in the Department of Defense and Coast Guard.  In 1991 the National Headquarters was opened in Alexandria, VA.  It is staffed with full time personnel ready to assist local chapters and members throughout the world.  The ASMC Headquarters publishes the Armed Forces Comptroller, a quarterly journal that keeps members well informed of ongoing issues in accounting, finance, information technology, education and many other great topics.  For more information on ASMC National Headquarters, visit its website - www.asmconline.org.
